DHOL premiere 13 12 2024 Sammukh, NSD, Delhi

DRAMALOGUE :
The story of the Dhol revolves around a frail individual who invents a unique drum strapped to their body as a protective device, shielding them from harm. This invention not only offers physical security but also transforms their sense of self. With the Dhol, the character feels empowered, gaining sympathy and attention from others. This newfound importance boosts their confidence, but it also fosters a sense of superiority, marking the beginning of their emotional dependence on the device.
As time progresses, the Dhol becomes both a shield and a barrier. While it initially draws admiration, it later alienates the character from those around them. The protagonist, consumed by paranoia, starts to believe that others are conspiring to steal their creation. This fear deepens their attachment, and they cling more tightly to the Dhol, isolating themselves further. Their once-prized innovation, a source of empowerment, now begins to erode their relationships and sense of reality.
Ultimately, the character’s fixation on the Dhol leads to their undoing. In their desperate attempt to protect and hold onto the device, they lose touch with their humanity and sense of self. The Dhol, once a symbol of confidence and ingenuity, becomes a burden that consumes them entirely. Their story serves as a poignant metaphor for how excessive reliance on external constructs, whether for protection or validation, can lead to personal destruction and alienation.
