बिस्कोहर की वसंतसेना कविता और सांस्कृतिक स्मृतियों की अनेक परतों से प्रेरित एक संगीत–नाट्य प्रस्तुति है, जिसकी पृष्ठभूमि वैदिक काल से लेकर वर्तमान तक विस्तृत भारतीय सांस्कृतिक वितान में निहित है। यह प्राचीन भू-दृश्य इतिहास, आध्यात्म और विस्मृत कला-स्वरों से गूँजता हुआ एक जीवंत स्मृति-लोक रचता है। इस प्रस्तुति के केंद्र में वसंतसेना है—एक गणिका, एक कलाकार—जिसका जीवन सौंदर्य, बौद्धिकता, भक्ति और सामाजिक अंतर्विरोधों के संगम पर आकार लेता हुआ एक समृद्ध, अखंडित परंपरा का साक्षात्कार कराता है।

कविता, गीत, नृत्य और सामूहिक मंच-क्रिया के माध्यम से यह मंचकृति वसंतसेना को केवल एक ऐतिहासिक या साहित्यिक पात्र के रूप में नहीं, बल्कि उस कलाकार स्त्री के प्रतीक रूप को प्रस्तुत करती है—जिसकी कला की प्रशंसा तो की जाती है, पर जिसे सामाजिक नैतिकताओं की सीमाओं में बाँध दिया जाता है। बाज़ार उसे एक क्रय – विक्रय की वस्तु बना देता रहा और राजनीति को विषकन्या के रूप में वह उपयोगी रही. वह एक साथ पूजित भी है और उपेक्षित भी; दिखाई देती भी है और भुला दी जाती है। उसकी यात्रा स्त्रीत्व, स्वायत्तता, इच्छा और गरिमा के प्रश्नों को कठोर सामाजिक संरचनाओं के भीतर उजागर करती है।

कथानक अंतर्मन की आवाज़ और सामूहिक स्मृति के बीच सहज रूप से प्रवाहित होता है। वसंतसेना की वाणी काव्यात्मक कथन और संगीतमय बनावट के माध्यम से उभरती है, जबकि मंच पर उपस्थित समूह उसके चारों ओर बदलती दुनियाओं—राजदरबार, पवित्र स्थल, सार्वजनिक दृष्टि और निजी एकांत—को साकार करता है। लोक लय, शास्त्रीय अभिव्यक्तियाँ और देशज शारीरिक भाषाएँ आपस में घुल-मिलकर ऐसा नाट्य-विन्यास रचती हैं, जहाँ संगीत और आंदोलन कथा कहने के सशक्त माध्यम बनते हैं और प्रस्तुति का चाक्षुष सौंदर्य भी रचते हैं।

बिस्कोहर स्वयं एक जीवंत उपस्थिति के रूप में सामने आता है—प्रेम, परित्याग, भक्ति और प्रतिरोध का साक्षी। वसंतसेना का शरीर सांस्कृतिक स्मृतियों का एक जीवित अभिलेख बन जाता है, जिसमें पीढ़ियों की स्त्री कलाकारों के गीत, अभिव्यक्तियों के विविध रूप और भाव संचित हैं।

अंततः बिस्कोहर की वसंतसेना यह प्रश्न उठाती है कि इतिहास में सम्मान, स्मरण और वाणी का अधिकार किसे प्राप्त होता है। गणिका की कथा को पुनः प्रतिष्ठित करते हुए यह प्रस्तुति उसे संस्कृति और कलात्मक चेतना के वाहक के रूप में पुनर्स्थापित करती है—जहाँ व्यक्तिगत संघर्ष सामूहिक विमर्श में रूपांतरित हो जाता है। यह कृति हाशिए पर रही स्त्री कलाकारों को समर्पित एक श्रद्धांजलि है और कला को अस्तित्व, प्रतिरोध तथा कालातीत मानवीय अभिव्यक्ति के रूप में देखने का आमंत्रण भी।

Biskohar ki Vasantasena is a music–movement–theatre work inspired by poetry and layered cultural memory, set in the ancient land of Biskohar, a place resonant with history, spirituality, and forgotten voices. At its heart lies Vasantasena, a courtesan—an artist whose life unfolds at the intersection of beauty, intellect, devotion, and social contradiction.  

Through poetry, song, dance, and ensemble action, the production explores Vasantasena not merely as a historical or literary figure, but as a symbol of the performing woman—celebrated for her art yet constrained by societal morality. She is both revered and marginalized, visible and erased. Her journey becomes a reflection on womanhood, agency, desire, and dignity within rigid social structures.  

The narrative moves fluidly between inner monologue and collective memory. Vasantasena’s voice emerges through poetic narration and musical textures, while the ensemble embodies the changing worlds around her—royal courts, sacred spaces, public gaze, and private solitude. Folk rhythms, classical idioms, and indigenous movement vocabularies blend seamlessly, creating a dramaturgy where music and movement function as storytelling forces rather than embellishment.  

Biskohar itself appears as a living presence—witnessing love, abandonment, devotion, and resistance. The courtesan’s body becomes an archive of cultural knowledge, carrying songs, gestures, and emotions passed through generations of women artists.  

Biskohar ki Vasantasena ultimately questions who is allowed respect, remembrance, and voice in history. By reclaiming the courtesan’s narrative, the production repositions her as a bearer of culture and consciousness, transforming personal struggle into collective reflection. The work stands as a tribute to marginalized women artists and a meditation on art as survival, resistance, and timeless human expression.
